Constant Elevation

I make my mixes in my basement. I spend prep time determining what tracks to use and how they might work together. My goal is to use only worthy songs and to place each track in a context which elevates the track above what it achieves alone. I want the songs to interact with each other before leaving the next track to stand on its own. I liken this to the way Miles Davis operated his groups: gather the trustworthy (top-notch songs); create an environment; and let them work together in that space. For Miles’ sidemen, they say he challenged them and brought them to heights they wouldn’t have conceived on their own. That’s my aim every time I’m weaving something together, and that’s what I hope you get out of my productions.
